Bledsoe County Schools director Selina Sparkman to leave; assistant Farrah Fields named interim

The board then voted unanimously to appoint Assistant Director Farrah Fields as Interim Director of Schools effective after Mrs. Sparkman’s resignation date. The appointment was made on a motion by Mrs. Carolyn Oakes and seconded by Chairman Andy Billingsley; all seven board members voted yes.
Board Attorney Howard Upchurch distributed the district policies governing the qualifications and procedures for hiring a director and led discussion on the search process. The board approved a motion by Mr. Steve Perry, seconded by Mr. Charles (Bron) Reece, that applicants must either be residents of Bledsoe County or be employees of the Bledsoe County School System. The motion passed unanimously.
The board agreed to advertise the position on SmartHire and in the Bledsonian Banner starting June 23. Key dates the board set are: July 7, 2025 — application deadline; July 10 — vetting of applications (regular meeting at 5:00 p.m.); July 17, 5:00 p.m. — applicant interviews; July 21 — contract approval. All meetings related to the search will be held at Bledsoe County Middle School.
Action and votes: The board formally accepted Mrs. Sparkman’s resignation (effective July 11) and appointed Mrs. Fields as Interim Director, both motions passing unanimously. The residency/employee preference for applicants was approved unanimously as part of the search procedure.
