Residents and some supervisors press for information on proposed 765 kV Dairyland transmission line

Three members of the public told the Vernon County General Government Committee on Feb. 4 that they oppose the proposed 765 kV transmission line from Dairyland Power Cooperative and urged the county to seek more information.
Tennelle Osthoff of the Town of Harmony spoke in opposition even though she said she is not a directly impacted landowner. Carl Volden, also from Harmony, said he questioned the electricity demand projections and raised environmental concerns. Rob Danielson of the Town of Stark said the public and local governments should press Dairyland for more information.
Chair Alycann Taylor noted that other municipalities have adopted resolutions that ask for information from developers. Administrative Coordinator Cassie Hanan told the committee that Dairyland Power Cooperative will present at the February County Board meeting; the General Government Committee could listen, ask questions, and consider any resolutions at its March meeting.
Supervisor Henry expressed opposition to the project during committee discussion, saying, "This project provides no benefit to us. We get nothing other than disturbing the beauty of the area and effects on health." Other supervisors and public commenters voiced uncertainty about projected demand and environmental impacts.
Next steps: Dairyland Power Cooperative is scheduled to present at the Vernon County Board meeting in February, and the committee plans to discuss potential resolutions or information requests at its March meeting.
