Callahan County commissioners approved a fee proposal from Zapata Architecture to oversee initial work on the courthouse annex, including roof-beam support and a temporary north retaining wall needed for demolition.
Sandra, appearing by Zoom, said the signed fee proposal and an updated certificate of insurance were in the packet. She explained the firm has worked with JC Stoddard and is prepared to begin site oversight. "We have worked with, mister Zapata," she said, and noted the copy in the packet had been signed after proposed corrections and an increased liability limit was documented.
Mr. Zapata told the court he had visited the site multiple times, discussed timing with on-site Stoddard staff, and identified moisture-infiltration issues he wants to patch immediately to prevent further deterioration. "I am fully versed with the challenges that we have at the moment, and I am looking forward to assisting the county with this project," he said.
Commissioner Clark moved approval of the fee proposal; Commissioner Windham seconded and the court approved the contract oversight engagement by voice vote.
County staff said a punch-list walkthrough and furniture walkthrough are scheduled and that some damaged case goods moved from the prison system to the courthouse will be replaced at the prison system’s cost.
