Dougherty County commissioners approve several vehicle purchases and routine contracts

The Dougherty County Board of Commissioners on April 9 approved a package of routine purchases and contract items, including repairs to stadium bathrooms and several fleet vehicle acquisitions.
The board accepted a $25,600 quote from Metro Power Albany to update bathrooms on the east side of the stadium, with funding identified in a county supplies account. District 4 Commissioner Greg said, "I just want the record to reflect that I'm abstaining from the vote on A to alleviate any perceived conflict of interest." The chair recorded the motion as passing with six in favor and one abstention.
Commissioners also approved purchases of vehicles for county departments. The board approved a 2026 Ford Explorer procured through a state contract for the sheriff's office (approximately $39,450), two 2026 Ford F-150 pickup trucks for Public Works at $45,179.36 each (about $90,358.72 total), a 2026 F-150 for Solid Waste at $37,385, and a 2026 F-350 transit van for Solid Waste at $62,810. Several commissioners questioned whether timing and bundling of vehicle orders had been coordinated to obtain better pricing; County Administrator Derek King said some purchases were reimbursed by insurance and timing differed between requests.
All the listed vehicle and equipment purchases were approved by unanimous consent except for the earlier noted abstention on the stadium bathroom item. Funding sources were described in each item as the applicable county supplies or solid-waste vehicle capital accounts.
The board handled these items as part of the consent/purchases portions of the agenda, and no additional amendments were offered during the meeting.
The board moved on to other agenda items after approving the purchases.
