Commission approves DUI task force reorganization, election audit committee and $9,000 grant for treatment court travel

At its April 14 meeting the Gallatin County Commission approved several administrative resolutions affecting public safety and election operations.

DUI task force: Holly Caprillo, DUI Task Force coordinator, asked the commission to approve a resolution to amend the task force bylaws and reorganize membership from 22 members to 11 — including up to three individual Gallatin County residents and eight law‑enforcement or agency representatives — to streamline operations and make quorum requirements more manageable. The commission approved Resolution 2026‑028 by motion and a 2–0 vote.

Post‑election audit committee: Clerk and Recorder Eric Simrad presented a required slate of volunteers for the post‑election audit committee for the June primary and November general elections. Simrad explained that the statutory audit requirement increased from sampling 5% of precincts for three races to 10% of precincts for four races and two issues, requiring more volunteers. The commission approved Resolution 2026‑029 appointing volunteers to the audit roster, 2–0.

Missouri River grant: Steve Etta of Court Services presented a budget amendment to reflect receipt of a $9,000 grant from the Missouri River Drug Task Force to support training and travel for treatment‑court staff to attend the national All Rise conference. The amendment (Resolution 2026‑030) was approved 2–0; staff said $1,840 will fund registrations and $7,160 will be allocated for travel and will roll into next fiscal year travel accounts as needed because the conference occurs in July.

Why it matters: the DUI task force reorganization is intended to improve operational efficiency and quorum reliability; the audit committee appointment satisfies a state statutory requirement; and the grant acceptance supports specialized training for county treatment‑court staff.
