Council OKs contract for automation controller tied to public-power expansion

Huron City Council approved Resolution 35-2026 to authorize the city manager to execute an agreement with SEL Engineering Services Inc. for the purchase and installation of an automation controller, associated software, and on-site engineering support for the Huron Public Power Expansion project in an amount not to exceed $129,618.35.
Mister Hamilton described the procurement as the control system that will allow the recently purchased transformer to be configured and integrated with the existing substation automation. “This just adds enough points that we can bring on the new transformer, configure it so we can switch loads between transformers, automate a lot of stuff,” Mister Hamilton said.
Councilors had no substantive objections during the presentation and approved the resolution by roll call. The work is part of a multi-step transformer project the city said it has already budgeted and partially completed.
Staff indicated the item is budgeted and invited questions but did not provide a detailed project schedule in the meeting.
