Huron council approves three-year lease-purchase for two police SUVs

The Huron City Council on a unanimous vote approved Resolution 34-2026 to authorize a three-year lease-purchase agreement with Statewide Emergency Products LLC, doing business as Statewide Municipal Leasing, for two Ford Explorer police cruisers in an amount not to exceed $127,326.
Chief Graham told the council the two Dodge Chargers being retired have roughly a quarter-million miles combined and that continuing to repair them would likely require “investing too much money” to keep them roadworthy. “This is a 3 year lease,” Chief Graham said, describing the arrangement as a lease with a $1 purchase option at the end of the term.
Council members asked whether the replacements were strictly necessary now or could be deferred. Chief Graham said the two vehicles had reached a point where parts were increasingly unavailable and that replacing them is more cost effective than ongoing repairs.
The city manager’s office confirmed the item was budgeted across 2025–27. The motion to waive the three-reading rule and place the resolution on its first reading was moved by a council member and passed; final adoption was approved by roll call.
The council did not attach additional conditions to the purchase. The agreement will be executed by the city manager as authorized by the resolution.
