Sunnybrook SD 171 celebrates Nathan Hale library ribbon-cutting after renovation

School and community leaders gathered at Nathan Hale to mark the ribbon-cutting for a renovated library, with officials and parents crediting broad local support and a schoolboard planning committee for completing the project.

A school presenter leading the ceremony told attendees the work would have a lasting impact on students and praised parents and community partners for supporting the effort. The presenter said the renovation had reached several “benchmarks” and that, when pupils first saw the finished space, some students reacted, “This is like college.”

Dr. Pettis, who spoke next, thanked the Sunnybrook community for backing district construction and said the renovated library “truly has been the benefit our students.” She described her excitement for the new space and turned the program over to Miss Ambrose to perform the ribbon cutting.

Miss Ambrose, who identified herself as a parent and a school board member, framed the project as a long-term investment in families and the district. “I’m a parent first before I’m a board member,” she said, urging continued support from local families.

The presenter closed by giving practical instructions for attendees to tour the space and noted that refreshments would be served by Richard’s cooking students. Organizers asked for applause for members of the Nathan Hale library planning committee, several classroom staff named at the event and other community partners that the presenter said helped ensure the project’s completion.

No formal votes or board actions were recorded during the ceremony; the event was a celebratory opening and public recognition of community contributors. The ribbon-cutting concluded with tours and refreshments planned for attendees.
