Councilors spent part of the March 23 Homewood City Council meeting recognizing local businesses, previewing community events and celebrating a Homewood High School arts achievement.
Councilor Lane praised Wayne Salem and Salem's Diner after the restaurant was named the state's best diner by tastingtable.com, and thanked Kenneth Rhodes for reopening Savages Bakery downtown. Councilors credited those businesses with contributing to Homewood’s downtown vitality.
Members also previewed several community events: Taste of Homewood (recently held), an upcoming Yacht Rock concert scheduled for April 11, and Hop and Shop on March 28 with tram service connecting shopping districts. The mayor and councilors noted the City Hall Plaza’s evolving role since COVID, saying plaza activations and arts programming have helped draw residents downtown.
In an education update, Mr. Murrell reported that two Homewood Show Choir ensembles performed at Nationals on the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville; the mixed group reached finals and placed third overall. Council members praised the school arts program.
