Homewood City’s mayor and three participating councilors approved a slate of routine ordinances and resolutions at the March 23 council meeting, including a $51,000 budget amendment to repair police station HVAC compressors and authorization for the city manager to execute opioid settlement agreements.
The council voted unanimously on several items brought forward by staff and council members. Councilor Lane’s request to add a yellow curb stripe on Linden was adopted and recorded in the meeting as ordinance 29 74. The council granted an ABC special-event license to the Homewood Library Foundation for a block party at 1721 Oxmoor Road on April 25, and approved a request from Odie’s to use one parking space for a weekly crawfish boil in April under an indemnification agreement.
Staff-driven budget items were also approved. The council approved a budget amendment to cover a services agreement (described at the meeting as remote manipulation and thermostat-related services) for the period 03/01/2025 through 09/30/2025; that amendment became resolution 26 27. Separately, Chief Ross asked the council to move $51,000 from contractual to building maintenance to pay for replacement and rebuilding of compressors serving roughly half the police station; the council approved the transfer and recorded it as resolution 26 33.
On legal matters, City Attorney Keith Jackson presented a request authorizing the city manager to execute opioid settlement agreements; the council voted to approve the authorization and recorded resolution 26 30.
The council also approved routine fiscal items. Vouchers for the period 03/10/2026 through 03/23/2026 were approved and recorded as resolution 26 31; a homeowner’s request to leave a retaining wall in the city right-of-way at 521 Edginal Drive was approved (resolution 26 28). A request to permit tournaments in the City Hall Plaza for 2026 was approved after staff confirmed the events would remain in their usual location (resolution 26 29).
All formal motions recorded in the meeting passed by unanimous recorded tallies (recorded in the meeting as 3 to 0). The council set a public hearing to consider declaring property at 201 Dale Avenue a public nuisance due to a dead tree; the mayor announced a hearing date during the meeting (the date was discussed during the session and noted below).
The meeting adjourned with no further action. The council did not record any failed votes or abstentions during this session.
Ending: The council adjourned after completing the agenda; the public hearing on 201 Dale Avenue was set during the meeting and will be noticed with the confirmed date and time.
