Rock Valley council approves ambulance purchase, large cleanup payment and routine licenses

On July 3 the council approved purchasing a demo model ambulance rig in an amount not to exceed $295,000 on a motion by Councilmember Koldenhoven with a second by Councilmember De Kam. The purchase was described on the agenda as a request from the Rock Valley Ambulance Service.
During the July 11 meeting the council approved pay request #3 from Van Holland Lawn for flood-related cleanup expenses in an amount not to exceed $753,029.07. The motion carried on a vote by Van't Hul and second by Koldenhoven.
The council also handled routine licensing and billing matters: it approved Class C Retail Alcohol permits (including for Cedar Rock Grill, Inc. and Koldy's Sports Bar & Grill) and a Class E license for JJ's Valley Mart during separate meetings. The council approved bills for the Rock Valley Ambulance Service, Fire Department, Municipal Housing Authority and the city on a July 25 motion.
Other operational items discussed but not acted on included an option to purchase a service vehicle and continued conversation about contracting with Sioux County for building inspection services. The council changed the Aug. 8 meeting time from 4 p.m. to 12 p.m. to accommodate a community feed during Rally in the Valley.
Mayor Kevin Van Otterloo recused himself from one portion of a meeting because of a conflict of interest on a flood-related bill; the council approved flood-related bills pending Leon Freeman's approval and the mayor later rejoined the meeting. The council adjourned each session after completing the listed business.
