Romeoville proclaims October observances, honors Senior Olympics athletes and parade winners

The Romeoville Village Board used its Oct. 1 meeting to issue several proclamations and to honor community participants in recent events.
Mayor John D. Noak proclaimed October 2025 as Fire Prevention Week, highlighting a focus on lithium‑ion battery safety and announcing a Fire Prevention Open House at Station 1 on Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A fire department representative thanked the board and recounted the long history of the observance.
The board also proclaimed October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month and welcomed representatives from Guardian Angel Community Services and Citizens Against Abuse. A Guardian Angel representative said the organization serves the Romeoville area and reported that last year the agency "served just under 11,000 victims of domestic violence, provided nearly 30,000 meals in our emergency shelter, and fielded over 5,000 emergency hotline calls," adding that 125 survivors secured transitional or permanent housing after leaving danger.
Founders Day parade awards were presented by Alex Vasiliades: Ballet Folklorico received best theme, Romeoville High School Marching Spartans received best overall band, Will County Jeepers received the judge's choice, and the mayor's choice award went to Bible Baptist Church of Romeoville. Annie Harmon presented certificates for the Golden Age Club and read individual medal counts; as a group the club earned 89 medals (20 bronze, 24 silver, 45 gold).
The board also proclaimed October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Polish American Heritage Month and appointed members to various village commissions. Board members and staff congratulated honorees and thanked event volunteers and commission appointees.
