Romeoville swears in Scott McLaughlin as new police commander

Scott McLaughlin was sworn in as the new commander of the Romeoville Police Department at the Village Board meeting on Oct. 1, 2025, after a formal introduction by the department’s chief and brief remarks from the incoming commander.
The police chief praised McLaughlin’s 25 years with the department and his record on officer wellness, training and technology, noting that "he introduced, implemented, and expanded our drone unit" and has received more than 30 departmental recognitions. "I'm excited to see what Scott will achieve in this new assignment," the chief said.
McLaughlin took the oath, thanked family and colleagues and described the promotion as "truly an honor." He referenced his career roles — patrol officer, school resource officer, detective and sergeant — and said he looks forward to continuing service in an administrative leadership role.
The board and attendees gave McLaughlin a standing ovation. Mayor John D. Noak congratulated him and thanked department staff for their work. The ceremony concluded with recognition of McLaughlin’s community involvement, including fundraising and Special Olympics support, that board members said exemplifies the department’s community ties.
No further action was taken related to the appointment at the meeting; McLaughlin’s remarks and the oath concluded the public portion of the ceremony.
