La Grange board approves 4% pass-through water rate increase; new rate $11.79 per 100 cubic feet

The Village Board on May 12 approved an ordinance incorporating a 4% pass‑through increase to water rates charged by the village’s supplier that raises the local water charge to $11.79 per 100 cubic feet.
Trustee Augustine explained that the Village of McCook — which supplies water to La Grange — notified the village of a 4% increase in wholesale charges effective June 1, 2025. The board’s policy is to pass increased purchase costs through to customers. Trustee Augustine said the new rate represents roughly a 24‑cent increase from $11.55 to $11.79 per 100 cubic feet and that the ordinance is intended to offset purchase costs, maintain reserves for capital work and support obligations such as lead service line replacement and water‑system maintenance.
Staff estimated the ordinance would generate approximately $123,420 in additional water revenue. Trustees discussed the need to maintain reserves and prepare for future capital projects; no members objected and the ordinance passed unanimously in a roll‑call vote.
The new rate will take effect as specified in the ordinance and will be reflected in customer billing in accordance with the village's implementation schedule.
