Becky Jacobson (speaker 3) delivered the OHA update, reporting that the office had no new repair referrals this month but has been handling insurance-denial cases that require appeals. She said the agency has taken some matters on as court cases and is supporting appeals processes rather than routing them back to repair operations.
"I don't really have a big report this month for OHA. We didn't get any referrals, which was strange," Becky said, adding that the agency is seeing some insurance denials and appeals and has worked closely with providers to expedite follow-up on individual cases. Becky praised provider responsiveness on recent files and offered to speak to advocacy groups or attend meetings to help implement reporting and complaint processes.
OHA is coordinating with IT to improve the consumer-facing website so people can file complaints and attach the appropriate forms (the New Motion and NSM forms were noted as already completed and being posted). Becky said improved online forms and the system upgrade should make it easier for consumers to file complaints and for staff to triage issues.
The subcommittee also discussed longer-term advocacy work. Members noted efforts to develop a wheelchair-user bill of rights and said they expect to resume intensive subcommittee drafting after the legislative session; Becky said she would help vocalize the complaint and appeals process to constituent groups.
No formal votes or rule changes came from the OHA report; Becky invited members to contact her for case follow-ups or to request OHA participation in advocacy or implementation meetings.
