Council approves consent items, accepts streets recommendation and schedules housekeeping items; mayor clarifies Pea Ridge annexation options

Consent agenda: Council approved two consent items by unanimous vote: a $150,000 contract to engage Kimley Horn Associates for the city’s unified development code update and a $69,028.50 contract for construction materials testing and special inspection services for the Ridge Pine elevated water storage tank and booster pump station with Black & Veatch and Geo Hydro Engineers.
Streets: City staff reported that streets in Town Mill Pod North Phase 3 (including Denali Butte Terrace and Bird Crossing) meet the unified development code and are ready for city acceptance for maintenance.
Prosecuting attorney office: City legal staff advised council that state law requires municipalities with a court to establish a municipal prosecuting attorney office and register approved prosecutors with the Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia. Staff intends to present a formal resolution at the next meeting to comply with the requirement.
Pea Ridge annexation: The mayor clarified that the ongoing Landau Regional Commission (ARC) study will guide residents and the city on potential annexation options and asked staff and counsel to return with an explanation of the statutory annexation pathways (the 60% petition method and referendum process) so residents understand their choices. The mayor said any annexation decision should be led by the affected residents.
Executive session: Near the end of the meeting council moved and voted unanimously to adjourn to executive session to discuss litigation and real estate.
