Staff compared Barracuda to alternatives (KnowBe4, TitanHQ and a higher‑cost Forta product) and warned that lower‑cost options either lacked required archiving, used off‑U.S. data centers or had older rules engines that previously blocked legitimate, one‑off emails to the police department.
The board approved the one‑year Barracuda renewal by roll call (recorded as $9,752.40); one trustee abstained. Trustees asked IT to put a re‑evaluation on the calendar (October) and to check the Ohio Township Association procurement avenue for comparative pricing. IT said Barracuda’s vendor relationship is at state bid pricing and the current renewal includes a 30‑day extension window to shift the renewal date for fiscal timing.
Trustees were briefed that the township also maintains endpoint protection (CrowdStrike) and that Barracuda addresses a complementary threat vector (email phishing and archiving).
