Layman cautioned that social-media posts about a masked person knocking on a door created concern but noted the call to police arrived about 30 minutes after the event; he urged residents to call the nonemergency number (533-8765) or 911 so agencies can respond in a timely fashion and explained the current Aberdeen contract funds response to calls rather than proactive patrols.
Chief Green reiterated that residents should call emergency or nonemergency numbers rather than rely on social media or voicemail, and described recent animal-control activity in Mill Creek Park.
A report read into the record for the fire department said the department had 21 calls since the last council meeting and 371 calls for the year; the department accepted an $82,000 FEMA grant that will be used to purchase needed safety equipment.
Council members and staff emphasized that timely reporting to the correct phone numbers improves the ability of responding agencies to serve the community.
