Commissioners approve task order to pursue MSAP match for South Main Street bridge project

Granite County commissioners voted to move forward with a task order to complete preliminary engineering and submit an MSAP grant application aimed at helping the county provide matching funds for a larger bridge-replacement project on the South Main Street loop.
Jeremiah (S11) outlined Task Order No. 16 and told the commission the overall Main Street/Clark Fork River project is approximately $10 million and would require a local match if federal funding were awarded. The MSAP (Montana Coal Endowment) program allows up to $750,000 that could be applied to the county’s match obligation. Jeremiah said the MSAP application requires a preliminary engineering report, alternatives analysis and a cost estimate, and that the MSAP application deadline is May 19.
Commissioners discussed match logistics and noted that accepting the MSAP award would not obligate the county to accept other federal funds if the county later chose not to proceed with the broader project. Commissioners asked staff to proceed with the PER and MSAP application and approved the task order by voice vote.
Next steps: county staff will begin the preliminary engineering work, complete the MSAP application and coordinate with MDT/FHWA if additional partnership or match strategies are needed.
