Planning board accepts $62,500 SHIP grant to test dredge spoils at Cummings Marina

The Stamford Planning Board voted April 28 to accept a $62,500 grant from the Connecticut Port Authority’s Small Harbor Improvement Projects (SHIP) program to fund biological testing of sediments at Cummings Marina.
Lou Casselow, city engineer, said testing is necessary to determine whether dredge spoils can be disposed of offshore under Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) permitting. Offshore disposal would be substantially less expensive than upland disposal. "The grant requires a 50% match," Casselow said, and noted the match is already authorized in the city's capital project CP0231 budget.
After brief questions, a motion to approve acceptance of the state grant (with the match already budgeted) was made, seconded and approved by the board by voice/hand-raise.
