Robins City officials on April 6 discussed proposed changes to the city’s sewer-rate structure and directed staff to draft ordinance updates to implement the preferred approach.
Mayor Chuck Hinz summarized the need for sewer-rate increases and said adopting a step-up rate structure could improve the city’s chances of qualifying for a State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan for future infrastructure upgrades. City Engineer Kelli Scott presented a slide deck outlining three proposed sewer-rate options. Council Member Cary Smith asked why the forecasts did not extend beyond FY29; Scott replied that the city anticipates moving to a different billing structure based on water usage in FY29. Council Member Bruce Vander Sanden said he favored Proposed Option 2, and Mayor Hinz said he also preferred Option 2.
Following the presentation and discussion, Council Member Cary Smith moved and Council Member Leigh Cook seconded a motion directing staff to draft the necessary ordinance updates ahead of the planned codification project; the motion carried unanimously. The council did not adopt final rates at the April 6 meeting; staff were directed to prepare ordinance language for future council consideration and formal adoption.
