House Bill 379, a committee bill requested by the Fairbanks North Star Borough to amend service-area law for large boroughs, received a brief reintroduction on April 30. Stewart Relay, staff to Chair Kerrick, characterized HB 379 as a focused, common-sense update that would make it easier for road service areas and subdivisions to be incorporated into existing service areas.
Representative Holland and others asked whether affected boroughs had submitted comments. Relay said the Alaska Municipal League submitted a letter of support that was distributed to committee members but that written responses from other boroughs were still being solicited; Representative Sinclair said she has informal confirmation that the Matanuska-Susitna Borough does not oppose the bill and is working to provide formal documentation.
Chair Kerrick set an amendment deadline for HB 379 of Monday, May 4 at 5 p.m. and moved the bill aside for future action; no amendments or votes occurred at the April 30 hearing.
