Town Manager Kamara Barnett presented a SCIF Grant Project ordinance authorizing a $350,000 appropriation and anticipated grant revenue for a 9/11 memorial. "BE IT ORDAINED ... the following grant project ordinance is hereby adopted," the ordinance text introduced at the meeting states; the council approved the ordinance without objection.
Barnett then presented an American Rescue Plan Project ordinance to fund aging water and wastewater infrastructure with an appropriation and anticipated revenue of $312,801.54. Barnett told the council that five applications were submitted to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) to assist with the town’s infrastructure needs.
Both ordinances direct the finance director to maintain detailed accounting records, permit advances from the general fund as necessary, and require quarterly financial reporting on project status. The council adopted both ordinances by unanimous vote.
Barnett also announced a First Friday community event on May 6 featuring the Matthew Boswell HBB Band.
