Co‑chair Hall called the House Labor and Commerce Committee to order and the panel heard Senate Bill 164, sponsored by Senator Kelly Merrick.
Senator Kelly Merrick, R., said the bill would remove a cigarette stamp tax discount and a tire fee timely‑filing discount, which the Department of Revenue estimates could raise nearly $500,000 a year for the state. "This is common‑sense legislation that will put money in the general fund and make government more efficient," Merrick said.
There were no committee questions and no public testimony. Co‑chair Fields moved to report the committee substitute for SB 164 out of committee with individual recommendations and the accompanying fiscal note; the motion carried without objection. The committee paperwork was signed and the bill was reported out of committee.
The action recorded in committee was procedural: the committee voted to report SB 164 with recommendations and an accompanying fiscal note. No amendments were adopted during the hearing.
The bill now moves forward consistent with the committee’s recommendation; the committee did not take a roll‑call recorded vote during this session. The committee proceeded to the next agenda item.
