Multiple residents and community representatives used the March 25 public-comment period to raise neighborhood safety, community-service and housing concerns.
Monica Delancey, representing the Riverside Rental Association, reported a Renters Rights Summit that drew representatives from all six council districts and announced a youth-led pedestrian safety meet-and-greet on March 29 at the Riverside Parkway and Premier Lane crosswalk to teach safe crossing behaviors before spring break.
Sam Culbreth (introduced by the clerk) promoted two events organized with State Representative Cummings: a virtual community conversation on SB 406 (HOA transparency and governance) and a family day at Sweetwater Creek State Park on May 16. Culbreth also noted that local bills including a municipal redevelopment powers referendum and a municipal court technology-fee bill had passed both chambers and were headed to the governor.
Patricia Burns of Friends of the Concord Covered Bridge described completed brush clearance, plans for spring plantings timed with Cobb DOT improvements, and asked for donations to support beautification ahead of the Georgia Trust spring ramble.
Joe Layman, regional manager for the South Cobb region of the Cobb County Public Library System, reported a successful book sale and prom-swap (hundreds served, detailed distribution counts provided) and thanked volunteers.
Councilwoman Cassandra Brown responded to a public card asking for attention to homeless encampments on Fontaine Road by saying code enforcement has contacted property owners and that cleanup of those private-property encampments should occur within about two weeks; she said she will monitor the sites. The clerk also read a card from Olivia Clemens requesting future discussion of the Fontaine Road encampments.
The mayor thanked commenters and moved the meeting to the business agenda.
