Mableton council adopts solid-waste ordinance, reappoints planning commissioner and approves $2.55M property purchase

The Mableton City Council at its March 25 meeting adopted an amendment to Chapter 12 of the Mableton Code of Ordinances updating the citys solid-waste management rules. Mayor Michael Owens said staff reported no substantive changes since first reading, and the council voted to approve the ordinance on a motion from Councilmember TJ Ferguson.
The council also approved a reappointment to the planning commission, reappointing Carl Valenzano and administering the oath of office. Councilwoman Cassandra Brown moved the reappointment; the motion carried unanimously.
After an executive session, the council approved a deferred resolution updating the city attorneys classification for lawful purposes. The council then authorized the mayor to finalize and execute, in substantial form, a purchase-and-sale agreement with Ellenwood MCRELP for property on or about 6116 Mableton Parkway for a purchase price not to exceed $2,550,000. The motion was made, seconded and passed.
Separately, the council authorized the mayor to negotiate and execute an amended employment contract with the city manager within the constraints of the current budget; that motion also passed.
Earlier in the meeting staff informed council that the applicant for REZ-2026-1 (0 Wind Circle) formally requested withdrawal; the council approved the withdrawal. The meeting concluded with adjournment.
