Monterey County highlights Measure AA early projects and unveils purple signage to mark funded work

Monterey County officials said Measure AA sales-tax revenue is already funding early projects in unincorporated communities and the Board approved standardized signage to show ratepayers where the money is being spent.

Randy Ishi, director of Public Works, Facilities and Parks, said Measure AA—a general sales tax for services in unincorporated Monterey County approved by voters in November 2024—has generated funds that the county is using for early-success projects. “The sign you see before you with its wording is a large purple background sign that says, ‘Thank you for investing in our collective future,’” Ishi said. That purple design will mark non‑road Measure AA projects; a road-project version will use alternate wording emphasizing “better roads and a brighter future for Monterey County.”

Ishi showed before-and-after pictures from South County communities (including Bradley) and listed recent or ongoing road projects credited to Measure AA dollars: Bradley Road, Plato Street, Monterey Street (near the fire station), Selena Street, Meadow Road, Blackie Road (Castroville), Dolan Road (north county, expected to finish in a few weeks) and Reservation Road (near East Garrison). He said the projects brought to the board in February will be completed before the end of the county’s fiscal year on June 30, 2026.

The county said the signs are intended to increase transparency so residents can see where Measure AA dollars are spent. Staff emphasized that the signage will be used for early-delivery projects and that the board continues to review allocations and project priorities as revenues are collected and projects are delivered.
