Resident urges county to condemn property over growing illegal tire pile on Bird Eye Road

At the March 23 Atascosa County Commissioners Court meeting, resident Rane Schultz urged county action to address a long-running illegal tire dump at 3115 Bird Eye Road.
Schultz said the problem has persisted for 14 years and told the court he estimated "approximately 5,000 tires" at the site. "My past experience with this ... dictates that that mountain of approximately 5,000 tires will be caught on fire again as an act of arson," Schultz said, urging the county to condemn the property for health and safety reasons and fence it off.
He commended the county fire marshal for recent work and said state regulators (TCEQ) had been of "no help," asking county administration to bring the matter to a conclusion. The judge thanked Schultz for the information and for keeping county staff informed; no formal vote or specific enforcement action was recorded on the transcript, but the judge acknowledged the complaint and thanked the resident.
The court did not announce an immediate condemnation action on the record; Schultz provided photos and materials to staff for follow-up.
