Moore County Board of Education approves policy changes, job‑description updates, 4‑H trip and tutoring grant

Tanya Vann, chair of the Moore County Board of Education, presided over the meeting and the board unanimously approved the previous meeting minutes. Board motions carried by 4–0 votes throughout the session; member Ed Cashion was noted as absent.
The board adopted changes to January policy recommendations, voting to approve revisions to Policy 1.901 and Policy 2.804. Carrie Barnett moved for the policy changes and Jammie Cashion seconded; the motion passed 4–0.
Under Policy 5.103 the board approved revised job descriptions. The revisions list bachelor’s degrees and Tennessee teaching licenses as “preferred” rather than required for head and assistant coaches, and add an optional Tennessee commercial driver’s license with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements for the Transportation Supervisor position. The minutes also record that the ESSER Supervisor position was deleted because the associated ESSER funds had been expended. Kaleigh Hatfield moved to adopt Policy 5.103; Carrie Barnett seconded and the board voted 4–0 to approve.
The board approved an overnight field trip for students to attend 4‑H Congress; Kaleigh Hatfield moved to approve and Chair Vann seconded. That motion passed 4–0. The minutes do not list individual student names for the trip authorization beyond those named in the director’s report.
The board also voted to accept a tutoring grant from the Tennessee Department of Education. Chair Vann moved to approve acceptance of the grant and Carrie Barnett seconded; the motion passed 4–0. The minutes do not specify the grant amount or the implementation timeline.
In his director’s report, Chad Moorehead, director of schools and secretary to the board, said planning is underway for summer school, which the district typically runs on a four‑day week beginning the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Moorehead announced that four students — Blazia Thomasson, Abby Carter, Jenny Deal and Reason Brown — will attend the TSBA SCOPE Conference on March 3 with Mr. Deal serving as chaperone. He also reported that Steven Tucker has been hired as a new custodian at LES, and that Wendy Hart submitted her intent to retire effective June 30, 2026 after 30 years of service.
The board adjourned following a motion by Jammie Cashion, seconded by Kaleigh Hatfield, which passed 4–0. The minutes record signatures and dates of March 9, 2026 for the chair and secretary.
