Moore County Board of Education approves director contract; hears updates on textbooks, litigation and staffing

Chairman Tanya Vann called the meeting to order and, after a roll call, the board approved the previous meeting minutes. Board member Ed Cashion moved to approve the director of schools contract; Jammie Cashion seconded. The motion passed 5-0. The minutes do not specify contract terms.
The board reviewed policy packets for November (Policies 4.100'4.408) and December (Policies 4.500'4.804) and took no action on either packet. During new business, Kaleigh Hatfield moved to change the January 2026 meeting to Jan. 13, 2026, at 6 p.m.; the minutes record the motion but do not record a second or a vote specifically tied to that motion.
Director of Schools Chad Moorehead reported that classroom textbooks have arrived and been distributed to schools, with the exception of one teacher edition still outstanding. Moorehead also informed the board that the false-claims litigation being handled on behalf of Tennessee public schools will be a lengthy process and that more information will be available by summer for the board to determine whether the district should join. He announced that Moore County High School received the A.F. Bridges Award for outstanding sportsmanship for the 2024'025 school year and provided employment updates, including the hiring of Kelly Hart as custodian and the reassignment of Gillian Schechter from an interim role to a teacher aide/LPN position temporarily during a maternity leave.
Moorehead also reviewed the fiscal-year budget calendar and district planning/retreat items and referenced TCA 49-6-2704, the state statute on notification requirements for threats or disruptive behavior in schools. The minutes do not contain further detail on any proposed budget changes or timelines for the litigation beyond the director's statement that more information will be available by summer.
