Moore County Board of Education approves booster-funded softball backstop and reviews routine director updates

The Moore County Board of Education met Nov. 10, 2025, at Moore County High School and approved a block-wall backstop for the softball field to be constructed at the expense of the softball booster club. Chair Tanya Vann called the meeting to order; the meeting opened with a roll call that initially showed all members present except Kaleigh Hatfield, who arrived about 6:05 p.m.
Ed Cashion moved to approve the previous meeting minutes; Jammie Cashion seconded and the board recorded a 4–0 vote in favor at that time. Carrie Barnett moved to adopt the meeting agenda; Ed Cashion seconded, and that motion also passed 4–0. Later, Jammie Cashion moved to approve construction of a block-wall backstop for the softball field, noting the booster club would pay for the work; Carrie Barnett seconded and the motion passed 4–0.
Director of Schools Chad Moorehead delivered the director’s report. He said quarterly reports had been provided to the board for review and reported that new science textbooks have been ordered but have not yet been received. Moorehead reported no update on ongoing false-claims litigation referenced as pertaining to Tennessee public schools. He gave enrollment figures, reporting Moore County High School at 394 students and LES at 518 students. On personnel, the director reported a new bus driver, Glen Byrd, and the resignation of Sydney Russell (LPN).
Board member Kaleigh Hatfield asked that the January board meeting date be placed on the December agenda so the board could consider changing the date because of a conflict with the middle school basketball schedule. The meeting was adjourned after a motion by Jammie Cashion, seconded by Ed Cashion; the minutes record a 5–0 vote to adjourn.
