Jacob Redberg, administrative analyst in the office of the city clerk, explained that city code (section 2.4.0.170) limits service in either the chair or vice‑chair role to no more than two calendar years. The clerk clarified that nominees must be primary committee members (alternates are not eligible) and summarized how the two‑year limit applied to current members.
After nominations and brief discussion about voluntary service, the committee nominated and elected Patrick Zelasky to the chairmanship by voice vote. Member Kang volunteered and was elected vice chair; both will begin their two‑year terms at the committee’s next regular meeting.
The clerk noted the appointments will be recorded under the city’s governance rules and that the new officers will preside over the June meeting and subsequent scheduled meetings under the current calendar. Members also discussed the committee’s pending bylaws and ongoing discussions about reconfiguring the committee; staff said they would await the next human resources director for any larger structural changes.
