Manassas Park School Board approves 2025–26, 2026–27 calendar changes to accommodate election, move graduation

The Manassas Park School Board on a voice vote approved small changes to the 2025–26 and 2026–27 academic calendars, including a one-day student holiday for a special election and a shift in the 2027 graduation date.

The presenter, introduced at the meeting as Dr. Graves, told board members the 2025–26 change would make Tuesday, April 21, 2026 a no‑school day for students and a virtual work day for staff because Manassas Park High School will serve as a polling precinct for a special election. "We do have Manassas Park High School as a polling precinct," the presenter said, explaining the rationale for the one-day adjustment.

The presenter also described two changes to the 2026–27 calendar: moving Manassas Park High School’s graduation from Saturday, June 5 to Friday, June 4, and moving a teacher work day from April 19 to April 5 so it directly follows the end of the third quarter. The presenter said these changes do not alter the total number of instructional days.

Chair Paul Alexander and board members voted first to waive a second reading of both calendar items because of repeated weather-related postponements of prior meetings, then approved the calendars as presented by voice vote.

The presenter said the division is beginning work on the 2027–28 calendar and plans to release two options along with a community survey after spring break; results will be presented to the board at a May meeting. Board members also announced a special meeting on Monday, April 6 at 6 p.m. for the public hearing on the superintendent’s proposed budget, the budget presentation to the governing body on April 7, and a regular meeting on April 13 at 6 p.m.

The board adjourned following a brief round of member comments and the scheduling announcements.
