Superintendent outlines transition plan; district contests DESE/SAIPE Title I warning

Superintendent Dr. Cabral presented a detailed transition plan to transfer duties to Dr. Pruett over the coming weeks, including shadowing meetings, gradual responsibility release and back-office work such as account access and document transfers. "The goal of this is for the community to see basically what the transition of leadership is for the next couple of months," Dr. Cabral said.
Dr. Pruett outlined onboarding and noted the advantage of overlap for institutional knowledge. "I have a separate notebook ... I'm reviewing it each night after our meetings," she said, describing her review of policies and operations.
Dr. Pruett also gave a federal-grants update. She said the district's current Title I funding is $346,515 and that a DESE warning chart had initially projected a dramatic reduction. After the district filed an informal review with the Census small-area income and poverty estimates office (SAIPE), the updated DESE warning now projects Title I entitlement near $167,671 for 2026-27. She emphasized the warning is a prediction and that final numbers will be set in July. "We did receive notification ... that there were no findings of irregularities in the data," she said regarding SAIPE's review, while adding the district remains concerned about a substantial projected decrease.
Committee members thanked administrators for the transition planning and for pursuing the grants review; they asked for continued updates as DESE finalizes figures in July.
