Leawood council formally names Tomahawk Creek Parkway public art collection "Artline Leawood"

The Leawood City Council on May 4 adopted a recommendation to formally name the Tomahawk Creek Parkway public art collection "Artline Leawood."
Kim Hinkle, chair of the Art in Public Places initiative, explained the naming process and said staff and volunteers wanted a term that captures the fluid, multimodal experience of the corridor. "We... narrowed it down to Artline Leawood," Hinkle said, adding that the name was selected to reflect driving, walking and cycling access as well as marketing clarity for visitors during upcoming FIFA events.
Anne Blessing, chair of the Leawood Arts Council, said the decision followed brainstorming and a unanimous recommendation from both volunteer committees. Council members who spoke in favor noted parallels with well-known linear art programs and the marketing value of a concise name and acronym ("ALL"). One council member expressed some Midwestern reservations about invoking the "High Line" concept but did not object to the motion.
Council member King moved to approve the name; the motion carried unanimously by voice vote. Staff will work with communications to prepare signage, brochures and temporary FIFA-era materials; plans for additional installations along trails were noted as part of a longer-term strategy.
