San Gabriel introduces new public works director Michael Sledd

City Manager Mark Lazaretto introduced Michael Sledd as San Gabriel’s new public works director at the Jan. 20 council meeting. Lazaretto noted Sledd joins the city from Newport Beach with prior experience in Glendora and Pomona and said Sledd lives in the San Gabriel Valley.
"I'm excited tonight to introduce our newest public works director," Lazaretto said, adding that Sledd "has a humility about him that kinda covers up the intelligence." Sledd, who said he lives in Monrovia with his wife and 11-year-old daughter, thanked the mayor and council and said he was "honored with the opportunity to serve."
Councilmembers welcomed Sledd and encouraged him to get to know the community; Vice Mayor Chan and Mayor Menchaca offered brief greetings referencing Sledd's Texas background and local ties. Sledd invited council and residents to ask him questions and said he looked forward to working with staff and the community.
No formal council action (hiring vote) was recorded in the presentation portion of the meeting; staff said Sledd has been with the city for about a week and will be part of the Public Works team going forward.
