Little Falls pauses Flock Safety camera pilot pending funding review

Police Chief Kyle told the City Council at a May 4 special work session that the department will pause participation in a provisional Flock Safety camera pilot because anticipated outside funding has not come through. “We still feel that this is a very, beneficial type of technology for the community,” Kyle said, “but at this point in time I think it's best for us to be responsible and make sure that, you know, we're not overstepping financially.”
Kyle said the project had advanced only to the permitting stage and that “they didn't start putting anything in the ground.” He asked the council to note the pause, saying staff would reassess the program and bring it back when the city’s financial position allows. Councilmembers did not take formal action during the work session; the chief described the pause as an administrative decision to halt further work until funding is secured.
The chief framed the pause as temporary and primarily financial: staff will monitor funding opportunities and revisit the pilot “down the road,” he said. The council did not set a timetable for reconsideration during the session.
