A volunteer-built Sebastopol climate dashboard that aggregates public utility, vehicle and waste data drew support from the Climate Action Committee, which discussed how the city might publish or link to the volunteer's work and whether to seek additional granular data from state sources.
Steve, a volunteer presenter, demonstrated dashboards built from investor-owned utility data (PG&E, Southern California Edison, SoCalGas), California Energy Commission gasoline sales, vehicle registration counts and county waste metrics. He said the site can compare statewide, county and city indicators and rank jurisdictions for electric-vehicle adoption, solar and natural-gas use.
"We rank about 105 out of about 400 jurisdictions in the state for electric-vehicle adoption," Steve said, and noted that Sebastopol currently shows relatively high natural-gas consumption within Sonoma County. He added he drafted a public-records request to the California Energy Commission to obtain gasoline data at a ZIP-code level where station counts permit it.
Committee members praised Steve's effort and asked whether the city could host a dashboard link on the official site. Kenna and staff said a direct site-to-site link would require legal review; a static snapshot or PDF export hosted on the city site appears more feasible without additional review. Steve said the dashboard is volunteer-built from public sources and offered to provide datasets or a prefilled city view for the city's website.
Members discussed how dashboard indicators could complement RCPA baselines: Steve said RCPA focuses on greenhouse-gas baselines (back to 1990) while his approach shows near-term leading indicators—electric vehicle adoption, natural gas consumption and solar/renewable metrics—that help track direction of change.
The committee did not take formal action; staff said the item could be added to a future agenda if the committee wants a city-hosted snapshot or a joint public-records request.
