Columbiana County commissioners approve routine bills, appointments and declare October Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Columbiana County Board of Commissioners met in regular session Sept. 17, 2025, and unanimously approved a series of routine administrative items and appointments while proclaiming October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Commissioner Paparodis moved, Commissioner Ginter seconded, to dispense with reading and approve the minutes of the Sept. 10, 2025 regular meeting; the motion carried on a unanimous vote of the board (Paparodis, Ginter, Halleck). Commissioner Ginter then moved, Commissioner Paparodis seconded, to approve travel for the county auditor to attend an Auditor's Conference in Kinsman, Ohio on Oct. 1, 2025, with an associated expense listed as $125 for Poppelriter; that motion also passed unanimously.
The commissioners approved a set of Then & Now bills covering multiple departments. The payments included: Development — PO#516744 to RT Vernal Paving for $120,698.30; Common Pleas — PO#516694 to Pitney Bowes for $1,191.00; Coroner — PO#516706 to NMS Labs for $3,136.00; Clerk of Courts — PO#516703 to Anthony Dattilio, Clerk, for $6,463.68; Commissioners — PO#516727 to Quality Affordable Concrete for $8,000.00; Dog Pound — PO#516689 to Prime Towing Service for $1,669.79; Sheriff — PO#516742 to Morris Automotive Repair for $1,243.65. Commissioner Paparodis moved the Then & Now approvals and Commissioner Ginter seconded; the board voted aye unanimously.
On appointments, Commissioner Ginter moved and Commissioner Paparodis seconded to appoint James Nentwick to the Columbiana County Airport Authority Board for a three-year term expiring June 30, 2028; the motion passed unanimously. The board also re-appointed Tad Herold to the Eastern Ohio Development Alliance board for a two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2025.
The commissioners authorized the County Engineer to enter into an IT services agreement with Team Logic IT LLC and to execute related documents, by motion of Commissioner Ginter seconded by Commissioner Paparodis. The board approved procedures for an electronic bid opening at the Engineer's office for the County Garage Expansion Project and referred a single qualifications submission from C. Tucker Cope to the Engineer for review and recommendation.
Commissioner Ginter moved and Commissioner Paparodis seconded to journalize a proclamation declaring October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and to permit placement of wreaths at the courthouse during October. Commissioner Halleck noted a "Take Back the Night Walk" scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9, beginning at the Christina Center, 115 East Washington Street, with Monica Robb Bladel, Ohio representative for District 79, as guest speaker. That proclamation motion carried on a unanimous vote.
Clerk Callie Sowards recorded the journalization of the Columbiana County Veterans Service Commission township cash grants for August 2025. With no further business, Commissioner Halleck adjourned the meeting.
