The Auglaize County Board of Commissioners convened March 31 in the Commissioners' Chambers and approved routine business before turning to personnel, facilities and program updates.
Commissioner David Bambauer moved at 8:00 a.m. to approve the resolutions presented that morning; Commissioner Douglas A. Spencer seconded and the resolutions were distributed for each commissioner’s vote and execution, according to the minutes. Later, Clerk Bobbi Donovan read the March 26, 2026 minutes at 8:40 a.m.; the Board approved the minutes.
County Administrator Erica L. Preston reported several administrative items. Preston said staff are still gathering information about a potential candidate for the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board and that she may represent the office at a career fair at Wapakoneta High School on May 6. Preston reported public-records requests to the Auditor’s office and the Board, and told commissioners that batteries were needed for a county-owned vehicle; the Board approved maintenance for the vehicle. Preston presented a quote from Napier Construction for sandstone work at the courthouse main entrance; the Board approved the quote and requested that a change order be added to the original project resolution.
At 9:05 a.m. the Board met with Auglaize County Engineer Marshall Miller to discuss the county’s 2026 Bridge Program. The minutes record that the briefing occurred but do not include project-level funding or timeline details in the published minutes.
Preston also reported plumbing issues in the Dispatch Area at the Law Enforcement Center and the Board requested a follow-up meeting with the Sheriff, the Maintenance Supervisor and the project manager to review the problems. The Board denied a request for metal detecting near the Acres site, and Preston said a request for CHIP assistance was an immediate need that did not meet program criteria; the information was passed to engineering firm Kleinfelder for follow-up.
The Board met at 10:05 a.m. with Shay Beanland of Eagon & Associates for the firm’s annual update; the minutes note the meeting but do not record details of the presentation.
At 10:40 a.m. Commissioner Douglas A. Spencer moved to enter executive session to discuss employment of a prospective candidate; Administrator Preston and IT Manager Scott Stanford were invited to attend. Commissioner Bambauer seconded, and Chairman John N. Bergman called the roll: Spencer — yes; Bambauer — yes; Bergman — yes. The Board returned to regular session at 11:10 a.m., and Commissioner Spencer moved to authorize County Administrator Erica L. Preston to make an offer of employment to the IT candidate. Commissioner Bambauer seconded, and the roll call was recorded as Spencer — yes; Bambauer — yes; Bergman — yes.
After the executive-session action, Preston reported that a grant pre-application for an HVAC project at the Council on Aging had been approved and that she had requested a quote for administrative costs to complete the application. She also reminded commissioners that projects for demolition grant funds are due by May 1 and said she was preparing required paperwork.
Clerk Donovan presented two resolutions for consideration near the end of the meeting: #26-123, accepting an agreement for limited tree removal with the Village of Waynesfield, and #26-124, amending the annual appropriation to account for certified but not appropriated moneys. The minutes state the full text of those resolutions is recorded in the Board’s Journal; the published minutes do not record final votes on those two resolutions. President Bergman adjourned the meeting at 11:20 a.m.
The minutes provide procedural and administrative details but do not record several specifics that would be required for fuller public accountability, such as vote tallies for the early morning resolution approvals (beyond the roll calls recorded for the executive-session actions), contract amounts for the Napier Construction quote, or project-level details from the bridge-program briefing.
