Council tables kratom sale and distribution ordinances for more input

The Scranton City Council placed two ordinances on hold that would regulate sale or distribution of kratom and chemically modified derivatives for human consumption or ingestion, including protections related to minors.
A council member said earlier this week there had been "good conversations" on the pending kratom legislation and that further collaborative discussion was expected later in the week. The chair announced both kratom ordinances (filed as items 8c and 8d) are being held for additional input from city staff and Lackawanna County before any final action is considered.
No enforcement changes were adopted at the meeting; the law department and county officials were identified as follow-up contacts to provide more information before the council moves forward.
