On July 10 the Alameda County Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance amending title 17 of the Alameda County General Ordinance Code to remove private swimming pools from the definition of 'building' and to add language treating private pools as accessory structures that are excluded from floor‑area ratio and floor space calculations.
Staff told the board this was the second reading of the ordinance following a May 8 first reading; waiving the full second reading, a supervisor moved the ordinance and the board approved it on a roll call vote. No public commenters spoke on the item at the meeting.
By treating private pools as accessory structures, the code change is intended to clarify how pools are counted for zoning calculations. Staff indicated the ordinance, if adopted, would take effect consistent with standard code timelines described in the ordinance materials.
