Committee adopts amendments to require public reporting on local assessments

House Bill 818 by Rep. Reiser was amended to make the measure a transparency and reporting bill for student assessments. Cynthia Posey of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers told the committee that, as amended, the bill "would turn it into a reporting bill" requiring districts to produce public inventories of locally required benchmark and progress-monitoring assessments, list the student groups assessed, the intended purpose and when results will be available, and submit that information to LDOE for statewide compilation and publication.
The committee adopted the chair's amendment set and moved the bill forward with amendments; a Jefferson Parish School Board official filed opposition on a red card but did not speak. Lawmakers said the change provides parents and educators clearer information about required testing.
With adoption of the amendments, the committee reported HB 818 with amendments for further consideration.
