Boyle County Board recognizes National Merit semifinalists and arts, academic honorees

The board honored multiple Boyle County students Oct. 16, naming National Merit Semifinalists, Governor's School for the Arts and Governor's Scholars Program recipients, AP Scholars with Distinction, and the Junction City Elementary inaugural cross-country team.
At its Oct. 16 meeting the Boyle County Board of Education recognized a slate of student achievements across academics, arts and athletics.
The minutes list National Merit Semifinalists including Jacob Kirchner, Jada Maples and Desmond Rapp. Governor’s School for the Arts honorees included Logan Ball, Anne Osterloh, Audrey Plowman, Nick Powell, Noah Sims, Mia Stephenson and Finn Strand. Governor’s Scholars Program honorees and Commonwealth Honors Academy recognition were also noted, along with a roster of students named AP Scholar with Distinction. The board recognized the Junction City Elementary School cross country team — the first time the sport was offered at that school — and listed the students and coach Laura Denis.
Principal John Elliott presented a Teaching and Learning report focused on three priorities the minutes called the “Big 3 Ideas”: excellence in academics, excellence in connectivity and excellence in culture. Superintendent Mark Wade also thanked Junction City Elementary School for hosting the meeting.
The recognitions were recorded in the meeting minutes and do not include scholarships or awards beyond honors and invitations to state/national programs.
