Staff said the proposal would formalize recognition for longevity of service and for employees who go above and beyond, allow nominations from supervisors, colleagues and the public on a quarterly schedule, and create a review panel that includes one commissioner, the human resources director and five employees. "We would have nominations submitted quarterly...Those would be recognized at the next commission meeting," the presenter said. Staff noted a modest budget request for an annual awards luncheon, plaques and tokens of appreciation and asked commissioners to offer feedback over the next month.
A commissioner suggested adding language to handle unexpired terms if a panel member retires or leaves; staff agreed to address that point. The item was informational only and will return for potential action on June 1.
