Cass County approves MOU to transfer about a mile of old County Road 4 to Harwood Township

The Cass County Commission approved a memorandum of understanding to transfer approximately a mile of Old County Road 4 to Harwood Township.
Staff explained the FM diversion project required reconstruction of County Road 4 and left a segment of the old route under county ownership. "So we would be giving, Harwood Township about a mile and change of our Old County Road 4," the presenter said, adding that the county plans to narrow the road from 30 feet to 24 feet to meet township standards as part of the Wernicke Avenue connection being built this year.
A commissioner asked whether warranty and funding for the Wernicke Avenue project were covered; staff confirmed warranty provisions and referenced a conversion authority grant associated with the work. A motion to approve the MOU was moved, seconded and carried after roll call.
Next steps: staff will proceed with executing the MOU and the physical narrowing/conversion work in coordination with Harwood Township as the construction proceeds.
