The Boyle County Board of Education convened a working session at Boyle County Middle School Library on Jan. 8, 2026. Vice-Chairperson Jesse Johnson called the meeting to order and the board unanimously adopted the meeting agenda on a motion by board member Stephen Tamme, seconded by board member Ruth Ann Elliott.
The board was notified of an extensive set of December 2025 student field trips across the district. Schools listed included Boyle County High School (BCHS), Boyle County Middle School (BCMS), Junction City Elementary School (JCES) and Westmoreland Elementary School (WES). Destinations and activities included athletic contests, band and choir performances, academic competitions and museum visits in locations such as Louisville, Cincinnati, Lexington, Berea and regional schools and venues. The record lists the trips by date, school group and destination but does not show any formal votes approving or rejecting the trips; it records that the board was notified.
Board members also received a personnel report listing certified extra-service appointments and resignations (for example, Carla Arnold, Laura Smith and Misty Wilson as JCES academic-team co-coaches; Jill Stambaugh as a resignation), certified substitute appointments (including Bella Floro, Susan Smith and Joyce Weise) and classified appointments. Notable classified entries included the appointment of Phillip Coffman as a full-time bus driver for Boyle County Schools (effective Jan. 6, 2026) and the appointment of Sarah Rankin as an instructional assistant, level 2, at BCMS (effective Jan. 1, 2026). The board record also notes the retirement of Mary Alice McClain, instructional assistant at BCMS, effective March 1, 2026. Several coach and extra-service appointments were listed with effective dates in late 2025; the minutes record the notifications but do not show separate approval votes in this working session.
The board was informed of the monthly fuel quotes for district operations; the minutes note the report but do not include action or a vote on procurement. The public comment period produced no speakers; the minutes state explicitly that there were no public comments.
During the working-session discussion, the board reviewed the agenda planned for the Jan. 15, 2026 regular meeting. The minutes do not record substantive amendments or formal direction tied to that review. Board member Cara Adkins moved to adjourn the working session; Ruth Ann Elliott seconded and the motion carried unanimously of those present.
The board’s next scheduled meeting is the regular board meeting on Jan. 15, 2026.
