The Kenai Peninsula Borough lands committee introduced Ordinance 2026‑18 to authorize a competitive sealed‑bid lease of a 24‑acre borough parcel in Beluga currently used as a material site. The committee scheduled a public hearing on the ordinance for May 5, 2026.
Mr. Hughes outlined the proposed lease terms: a $450 per month minimum reserve with a 3% annual escalation; an annual minimum removal requirement of 1,000 yards and a maximum of 2,000 yards; and a $3.50 per yard royalty on any material removed in excess of 2,000 yards. He said the lease would be offered by sealed bid with a proposed deadline of May 21, and that the initial term would be five years with a provision for an additional five‑year term by written consent of both parties.
During follow-up questions a committee member asked about the Eagle Lake material site; Mr. Hughes reported the bid opening for Eagle Lake is scheduled for April 28. The ordinance was introduced and will return for public hearing on May 5, 2026.
