The Kenai Peninsula Borough lands committee introduced Ordinance 2026‑17 on Tuesday to reaffirm a prior authorization to convey a narrow parcel to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities for the Sterling Safety Corridor improvements between mileposts 82.5 and 94. Committee discussion noted the parcel was originally retained following a tax foreclosure and held for public highway right‑of‑way use.
Mr. Hughes told the committee that Ordinance 89‑13 previously authorized disposal of the parcel to DOT&PF but the conveyance was never completed. "That conveyance was never completed. So this ordinance just simply reaffirms action in order for us to complete that conveyance," Mr. Hughes said.
The chair scheduled a public hearing on the ordinance for May 5, 2026. No committee vote was taken at the introduction; the hearing will allow for public comment and any additional staff clarifications before further action.
