The City Council voted May 4 to participate in a regional feasibility study of shared fire protection and EMS services with neighboring jurisdictions. Staff said the study is organized across about eight to ten communities and will produce comparative data on call volumes, staffing needs, equipment, response times and possible shared‑service models.
Neil, the city administrator, described the consultant scope from McMahon & Associates and said a regional study reduces Monona’s cost to roughly an $11,000 lump sum for participation. Fire Chief Jerry described the importance of data to justify future staffing or shared‑service decisions and said the analysis would establish a baseline for Monona’s current staffing model and calls for service.
Council members discussed geography and partners and emphasized the study’s potential to inform impact fee discussions and capital planning. The motion to join the study carried by voice vote.
